Tailoring works when it makes relevant experience easier to find. Repeating a keyword without evidence makes the document weaker and can create claims you cannot defend in an interview.
Separate required from preferred
Read the listing once for context, then mark qualifications the employer calls required. Handle preferred items separately. Your first editing pass should make real evidence for the required work easy to locate.
Write an evidence line
A useful bullet names the action, the setting or scale, and the result. Use the employer’s ordinary language when it accurately describes your work.
- Weak: Responsible for dashboards.
- Better: Built weekly retention dashboards for product and support teams, reducing manual reporting by four hours per cycle.
- If you cannot verify a number, describe the observable outcome without inventing one.
Run a human check
Read the first half-page as a busy recruiter would. The target role, relevant experience and strongest evidence should be clear quickly. Then confirm spelling, dates, links and every claim before export.
