A salary range becomes useful only when you know what it covers. Annual base pay, hourly wages, daily contract rates and total compensation cannot be compared as if they were the same measure.
Identify the unit and scope
Record currency, pay period, minimum, maximum and location. Check whether the figure is base salary or includes bonus, commission, equity, pension or allowances.
Connect the range to level and location
Wide ranges can cover several locations or seniority levels. Read the employer’s explanation for how experience, geography and internal pay bands affect the offered amount.
Keep missing pay visible
An estimated salary can be useful for private planning, but it should not be presented as an employer statement. JobsDrip marks pay as not supplied when the source does not publish an amount.
